questions for thought & discussion

  1. How does this section tie in with the “hate the sin, not the sinner” concept?
  2. Based on this section, how should women voting and women in military service be viewed?
  3. Rushdoony states, “The law therefore forbids imposing a man’s duties and tools on a woman, and a woman’s on a man. Its purpose is thus to maintain God’s fundamental order. A man who allows his wife to support him when he is able bodied has violated this law.” Does the “Mr. Mom” concept of the husband/father staying home with the children and the mother being the breadwinner illustrate this point? Explain.
  4. Is there some irony in the fact that at a time when the distinctiveness of sexual differences is blurred and minimized that we have increased emphasis on sex in our culture?
  5. Based on this law – should women not wear slacks? Support your answer.
  6. Does hair length for men and women enter into this discussion? Support your answer.
  7. W. L. Alexander is quoted in this section stating, “...Whatever tends to obliterate the distinction between the sexes tends to licentiousness...” Can you see how this could be? Explain.
  8. Since this section speaks to attitudes and position as much as it does to dress, can you see any correlation to the serpent’s temptation of Eve and her resultant disobedience to this concept of “confusion”?
  9. How is it possible to go “overboard” with this concept and violate the concept of the status and position of the individual believer before God, viewed apart from gender?
  10. Where will we find the standards from which to ascertain violations of Deut. 22:5?
  11. Is it safe to assume that we (those of us studying this section) are immune to the sin described herein? Why would I ask this question?

application

One of the surest ways to identify whether you understand a subject is to write a point of view paper (sometimes referred to as a position paper).  This exercise helps to unearth areas of confusion, uncertainty, and/or disagreement, many times revealing that a number of unanswered questions remain. Once completed, you may submit your paper for comments.

After formulating your position(s) on the subjects covered in each lesson, a good next step is to engage in conversation (with your spouse, children, parents, friends, or co-workers) to better hone your skill in communicating the concepts you have learned and are assimilating into your own thinking.  Do not be concerned about “messing up” or doing it the “wrong way” as you will do plenty of both!  As with anything worth doing, practice will refine this skill, which is vital in order to fulfill the Great Commission.  If you find you need some one-on-one interaction, you may submit a question or request an appointment.
